Society for Name Studies in Britain and Ireland: membership
Membership of the society is open to all who are interested in the study of names including place-names and personal names. The subscription year runs from January 1st to December 31st each year. Members are entitled to copies of the Society journal Nomina, published during their membership, plus the right to purchase back numbers at reduced prices. They also get such newsletters as are published, together with preferential booking and rates at the Society’s annual weekend conference and day schools and may advertise their research on the Society webpage.
The present membership of around 200 is drawn mainly from England, Scotland, Wales and the north and south of Ireland. We also have members in Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, USA and Japan. We welcome new members with an interest in proper names, including place-names, personal names and surnames.
Annual membership subscriptions are:- individual £20, family £25 and student £5. If you choose to pay by standing order, you will qualify for slightly lower rates: individual £18 and family £23.
The application form is available as a pdf file, or as a Microsoft Word file. Once it has been completed and printed, please post it, along with the subscription, to the Treasurer at 5 St Edwards Drive, Stow-on-the-Wold, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire GL54 1AW, England.
To help with administration, the list of members’ names and addresses is kept on computer. If you would prefer your membership record kept in a “manual” file, please let the Membership Secretary know when you return your application form. Since the address labels are printed from the computer list, mailings to those on the manual file may be slightly delayed. You may pay your subscription using Paypal as shown below. At the same time, please complete a membership form and send it to the treasurer to give your details. If you wish to make any other payments using Paypal, please email the Treasurer for details.
